Cranmer Posts Four Hits In Mean Green Loss

DENTON (4/25/04)- Junior Stephanie Cranmer posted four hits in the North Texas softball team’s 9-3 loss to eighth-ranked Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday afternoon at Denia Park.
The Mean Green (16-50, 1-11 Sun Belt Conference) lost the first game of the doubleheader, 1-0. The Ragin’ Cajuns extended their record to 45-6 overall and 11-0 in conference play.
Cranmer went 4-for-4, including two RBI, in the nightcap. She is the first player to post four hits in a single game in the new era of Mean Green softball. The left fielder has recorded three three-hit games this season.
Cranmer helped North Texas get on the scoreboard first in the nightcap, knocking in sophomore Kelei Walker with an RBI single in the first inning. Walker went 3-for-4 in the game with three runs scored.
The Ragin’ Cajuns scored four runs off two hits and two Mean Green errors in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead. ULL added runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to extend its lead to 9-2.
Cranmer posted her second RBI of the game in the fifth inning, knocking in Walker with another single. Walker got on base with a triple to start off the inning. Cranmer posted her fourth single in the seventh inning. The Mean Green scored its third run in the final inning after freshman Maureen Kelley hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Walker from third base.
Freshman Katy Maxey took the loss in the first game for the Mean Green, despite allowing only one run off five hits. The Ragin’ Cajuns allowed only four Mean Green hits in the opening game.
Louisiana-Lafayette scored its lone run in the sixth inning off an RBI double by Holly Tankersley. Hillary Guidry scored on the play after getting hit by a pitch to start off the inning.
North Texas returns to action on Wednesday, April 28 when it faces No. 20 Baylor at 5 pm in Waco.
