No. 22 Baylor Pitches Past The Mean Green

WACO (4/28/04)- The Baylor softball team held North Texas to a combined six hits as the No. 22 Bears won both games in doubleheader action on Wednesday evening at Getterman Stadium.
The Bears (42-12) won by scores of 4-0 and 8-3. The Mean Green (16-52) extended its losing streak to 10 games.
Lisa Ferguson won her 15th game of the season in the 4-0 victory, holding North Texas to two hits. Junior Brittiny Chapman and freshman Susan Waters posted the hits for the Mean Green. Junior Mandy Hacker took the loss for NT, allowing four runs off eight hits.
Baylor jumped on the scoreboard early in the second game, scoring three runs in the first inning. The Bears posted three hits in the inning and capitalized on two errors by the Mean Green. Baylor scored four more runs in the fourth inning off six hits to extend the lead to seven.
North Texas pitchers’ Raci Burnett, Katy Maxey and Hacker all saw action in the nightcap. Burnett, in her third start of the season, took the loss for the Mean Green.
Junior Stephanie Cranmer helped North Texas get on track with an RBI double in the sixth inning, scoring Kelei Walker and Hacker. Both reached base due to two Baylor errors. Another throwing error allowed a third Mean Green runner to reach home making the score, 7-3.
Walker went 2-for-3 in the nightcap with two runs scored. Hacker posted the third hit for the Mean Green in the seventh inning.
North Texas returns to action on Saturday, May 1 when it begins a four-game series with New Mexico State. The first pitch is slated for 1 pm in Las Cruces, NM.
