Mean Green Finishes Season With 4-2 Loss to Aggies

LAFAYETTE, LA - North Texas finished up its first season in the new era of Mean Green softball with a 4-2 loss to New Mexico State in the Sun Belt Conference tournament on Saturday morning at Lady Cajun Park.
North Texas (22-57) outhit the Aggies, 7-6, but was hurt by four errors in the elimination game. The Mean Green won the first game of the tournament against Western Kentucky but then lost its next two games. New Mexico State (14-48) goes on to face Middle Tennessee in its second elimination game of the tournament.
North Texas dug itself in a hole at the start of the game, giving up three Aggie runs off two hits and two Mean Green errors in the first inning. New Mexico State tacked on another run in the sixth after an RBI single by Lisette Wilson.
The Mean Green engineered a comeback in the bottom of the sixth with two runs off three hits. Junior Stephanie Cranmer led off the inning with an extra-base hit to left field. After freshman Susan Waters struck out, freshman Heather Bostic knocked in Cranmer with an RBI double to center field. Freshman Monica Garcia loaded the bases with a single to center field after a walk by junior Brittiny Chapman. Pinch hitter Danielle Rupp then reached on an error, scoring Bostic from third. Chapman was tagged out after trying to reach home to end the inning.
The Mean Green mounted scoring opportunities in the third, fourth and fifth innings but was unable to get any runners across the plate. North Texas left seven runners stranded in the game.
Chapman, Bostic and Cranmer all posted two hits in the game.
