Western Michigan Shuts Out North Texas, 1-0

Gainesville - (2/28/05) - Tricia Vanderslik pitched a three-hit shutout to lead Western Michigan to a 1-0 victory against North Texas for the Broncos’ first win of the season on Monday afternoon at North Central Texas College Softball Field.
The Mean Green (3-13) lost its third straight game, while the Broncos won their first game of the season after losing their first two.
Valderslik allowed only three North Texas hits, one in the first inning and two in the seventh. She struck out six batters and went 2-for-3 at the plate. Freshman Kristina Fowler took the loss for North Texas, pitching seven innings and allowing one run off eight hits.
Western Michigan got on the scoreboard in sixth inning off three hits. Katie Niemi started off the inning with a double and then reached third on a wild pitch. Connie Kolokithas singled her home for the game’s only run. The Broncos left two runners stranded after Fowler forced a popup for the final out.
Senior Mandy Hacker and freshman Katya Muller both singled in the bottom of the seventh but were left stranded.
North Texas returns to action on Friday, March 4 when it competes in the Embassy Suites-Tulsa Invite. The Mean Green plays Wichita State at 11 am.
