Tulsa, Okla. (3/4/05) Senior Mandy Hacker knocked in the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning, lifting the North Texas softball team to a 4-3 victory against Oklahoma State on Friday afternoon at the Embassy Suites-Tulsa Invite.
The Mean Green (4-14) extended its record against Oklahoma State to 2-1. The Cowgirls received votes in this week’s USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll. North Texas lost to Wichita State, 5-1, in the first game of the day.
Hacker went 3-for-3 with three RBI in the win against Oklahoma State. The senior singled in NT’s first run to tie the game at 1-1 in the second inning. After the Cowgirls regained the lead, 3-1, with runs in the fourth and fifth innings, Hacker doubled to start off the sixth inning. Sophomore Marquita Adams pinch ran for Hacker and scored on a wild pitch to bring NT within one, 3-2.
With the bases loaded in the seventh, Hacker singled in two runs, giving North Texas a 4-3 lead. Freshman Kristina Fowler earned her third win of the season by forcing a popup with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh. Fowler allowed three runs off four hits, while striking out three Cowgirls.
Hacker also posted a hit in the loss against Wichita State. Sophomore Susan Waters went 2-for-3 against Oklahoma State and 1-for-3 versus Wichita State.
North Texas returns to action on Saturday, March 5 with two more games in the Embassy Suites-Tulsa Invite. The Mean Green starts play with Louisiana-Monroe at 9 am.
