Softball Splits With New Mexico State

DENTON (5/1/05) - Senior Mandy Hacker and sophomore Heather Bostic combined for five hits to lead the North Texas softball team to a 5-2 win against New Mexico State on Sunday afternoon at Denia Park. The Aggies won the first game, 3-1.
The Mean Green (12-32, 5-11 Sun Belt) split the series with New Mexico State, 2-2. The Aggies (25-26, 8-8 Sun Belt) remain ahead of North Texas in the conference standings with an 8-8 mark.
North Texas held the Aggies scoreless, 5-0, in the second game until NMSU scored two runs in the seventh inning. The Mean Green jumped out ahead, 3-0, in the second inning. Hacker started the offense going with a single and ended up on a second off an Aggie error. Bostic knocked the first run in with a double and later scored on a triple by sophomore Monica Garcia. Garcia scored the third run off a wild pitch by New Mexico State.
Hacker and Bostic teamed up again in the fourth inning with two more hits. Hacker singled and then moved to third on Bostic’s second double of the game. Waters knocked in Hacker with a grounder to the shortstop. Hacker completed her 3-for-3 performance with a home run in the sixth inning, her first in a Mean Green uniform.
Freshman Kristina Fowler (8-18) earned the win on the mound for the Mean Green. She pitched seven innings and allowed two runs on six hits, while striking out nine batters. Fowler held the Aggies hitless until the fourth inning and then allowed only three hits through six innings of work. In the seventh inning, the Aggies scored two runs on three hits.
NMSU’s Sarah Seagraves held North Texas to one run on four hits in the first game. Sophomore Katy Maxey (3-8) took the loss after pitching seven innings and allowing three runs on eight hits. Two of the runs were scored in the first inning.
Freshman Katya Muller scored the only run for the Mean Green in the first game, hitting a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning.
North Texas concludes regular season conference play with a series against Western Kentucky on May 7-8 at Denia Park.
