New Orleans (5/10/05) - North Texas softball student-athlete Stephanie Cranmer was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference team, released Wednesday by the league office.
Cranmer, a senior outfielder, was selected to the second team after leading the Mean Green with a .316 batting average and 43 hits. She is sixth in the Sun Belt in batting average and seventh in conference-games only. The Moreno Valley, Calif. native received first-team all-conference recognition last year.
The senior has accomplished a number of feats at the plate, including becoming the first and only the second player at North Texas to post four hits in a single game, which she has done twice. She went 4-for-4 this year against Wisconsin. She also has hit two inside-the-park home runs, another first at North Texas. In 2005, she was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week and received North Texas Mean Green Classic All-Tournament Team honors.
In her two years at North Texas, she has compiled a .297 batting average, recorded 109 hits and posted 31 multi-hit games. She will leave the program as the leader in batting average, hits, multiple-hit games and on-base percentage.
North Texas enters the Sun Belt Conference tournament with a 13-36 overall record and a 6-14 league mark. The Mean Green, seeded fifth, plays fourth-seed New Mexico State on Thursday, May 12 at 11 am in Bowling Green, KY.
