Mean Green Wins Opening Tourney Game

The Mean Green (14-36) won its first game of the SBC tournament for the second year in a row. NT faces top-seeded Louisiana-Lafayette in the third game of the day at
“Altogether, we played well,” said head coach Kelly Burns. “We had quality and timely hitting. Kristina did an outstanding job on the mound. We knew we had to lay off the pitcher’s riser, which our team did.”
Freshman Kristina Fowler (10-19) pitched a complete game shutout. She allowed seven hits in the game, while striking out seven Aggies. Fowler posted at least one strikeout in each of the first four innings. She started the first inning by striking out three of four batters. In the third inning, the freshman pitched out of a jam, forcing a pop fly with the bases loaded for the third out.
Mean Green tacked on a second run in the fifth inning with an RBI single by Stephanie Cranmer. Katya Muller scored on the play after reaching base on an error.
Cranmer went 2-for-2 in the game.
