Bowling Green, KY (5/13/05) The North Texas softball team was knocked out of the Sun Belt Conference tournament by New Mexico State for the second year in a row, losing 3-0 on Friday evening at the WKU Softball Complex.
The Mean Green (15-38) finished the tournament with a 2-2 record. NT came back to defeat Middle Tennessee, 5-3, earlier in the day. North Texas defeated New Mexico State, 2-0, in the first round of the tournament.
New Mexico State jumped out ahead with a solo home run in the fourth inning. The Aggies tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning off three singles and a sacrifice fly to left field.
New Mexico State pitcher Sarah Seagraves held the Mean Green to just two hits. She took the loss for the Aggies in the first game against North Texas.
Freshman Kristina Fowler (11-21) took the loss for the Mean Green, allowing three runs on 10 hits. She struck out eight Aggies in the game. Fowler went 2-2 in the tournament in three starts. She earned her second victory of the tournament after coming in to relieve starter Katy Maxey in the sixth inning of the Middle Tennessee game. She allowed one unearned run on two hits in two innings of work.
Senior Stephanie Cranmer posted two hits in the game and five in the tournament.
North Texas finished its second season in the new era of Mean Green softball with a 15-38 overall mark. NT went 6-14 in the Sun Belt and had senior Stephanie Cranmer named to the second-team All-Sun Belt team.
