Sun Belt Softball Tournament Pairings Set

DENTON (5/9/05) - The North Texas softball team opens play in the 2005 Sun Belt Conference Tournament at the WKU Softball Field in Bowling Green, KY on Thursday, May 12 at 11 am versus New Mexico State. The Mean Green is the fifth seed in the six-team event, while New Mexico State is the fourth seed.
Louisiana-Lafayette (47-8, 19-1) has won the tournament for the last five years. North Texas (13-36, 6-14) is 2-2 against New Mexico State this season, splitting doubleheaders. The Mean Green also secured three wins against Middle Tennessee and one victory against Western Kentucky this season.
North Texas is participating in the conference tournament for the second straight year. The Mean Green was also the fifth seed in the 2004 tournament. NT went 1-2 in that tournament, losing to Louisiana-Lafayette and New Mexico State.
The weekend will begin on Wednesday evening with the league’s annual awards banquet. The conference will name its Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Coach of the Year and its All-Sun Belt teams.
The six-team event is double-elimination.
