Softball Wins Two Out Of Three At University Classic

DENTON (10/20/06) - The North Texas softball team won two out of its three games on Friday at the University Classic held at the Mean Green Softball Complex.
The Mean Green lost its first game, 3-2, against North Central but came back to secure victories against Eastern Oklahoma (10-2) and Alvin College (2-0). NT managed only two hits in the first game but posted 13 in the win over Eastern Oklahoma.
Senior Susan Waters recorded NT's first home run in its new ball park with a solo long ball in the 2-0 loss. She posted both of the Mean Green's hits in that game. North Texas capitalized on errors in the second game, scoring two runs off three fielding mistakes by the opponent in the first inning. North Texas scored six runs in the combined fourth and fifth innings off six extra-base hits.
Junior Katya Muller hit a two-run shot in the first inning of the third game against Alvin. The Mean Green posted six hits in the game but was unable to score any more runs after the Muller long ball. Freshman Kayla Lawson and sophomore Ashley Lail combined for the shutout in the circle, limiting Alvin to two hits.
North Texas returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 21 when it continues action in the University Classic.
