North Texas Drops Both Games Of Doubleheader

DENTON (2/16/06) - The North Texas softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Wichita State on Thursday at Denia Park. The Mean Green lost 7-3 in the first game and 5-0 in the nightcap.
The Mean Green falls to 3-5 overall and 0-8 in the series against the Shockers. Wichita State evened out with a 3-3 record.
Wichita State pitchers Britnee Barnett and Margo Pruis struck out a combined 16 Mean Green batters and allowed only one earned run. Pruis pitched a six-inning shutout, allowing only four hits in the nightcap of the doubleheader.
The Mean Green struggled offensively, posting three runs off 11 hits in the two games. NT was also hurt by seven errors in the two games. Wichita State jumped out early in both games and was able to hold the leads down the stretch.
Sophomore Kristina Fowler took the loss in the first game, while freshman Jessica Smith dropped to 1-3 on the mound in the second game. Junior Anne Morton pitched effectively in relief in the first game, allowing no hits and one walk in three innings of work.
Senior Kelei Walker went 2-for-3 in the first game, and sophomore Katya Muller posted two hits in the second game. Susan Waters, Fowler and Monica Garcia posted a hit in each of the two games.
North Texas returns to action on Monday, Feb. 20 when it faces Nicholls State on the road.
