Waters Posts Three Home Runs In Two Games

Thibodaux, La. (2/20/06) Junior Susan Waters hit three home runs in two games to lead the North Texas softball team to a split against Nicholls State on Monday at Colonels Diamond.
The Mean Green (4-6) won the first game of the doubleheader, 5-3, and lost the second, 6-4, despite out-hitting
Waters went 5-for-8 with six RBI in the combined two games. She hit two solo home runs in the 6-4 loss, a feat she has done twice before. Last year, Waters hit two home runs in a single game against Stephen F. Austin.
Sophomore Kristina Fowler (3-2) won her third game of the season, pitching seven innings and allowing three runs on four hits. Fowler held a no-hitter until the seventh inning when
Fowler was assisted with run support in the six inning of the first game when Waters posted her first home run, scoring Katya Muller who reached base on an error. Muller scored again in the seventh inning when Waters recorded a two-RBI single. Freshman Kadie Platt also scored after posting her first career hit. Freshman Sarah Jones scored the first run of the seventh after reaching base on a fielder’s choice and was knocked home by a Muller single.
The Mean Green left seven runners stranded in the nightcap. Waters started the offense going with a double in the first inning. The Mean Green loaded the bases for junior Christen Jonse who drew a walk and an RBI to give
Junior Heather Bostic tacked on NT’s second run with an RBI double in the third inning, but Nicholls State scored one run in the second and three in the bottom of the third to take a 4-2 lead. Waters’ second home run of the game cut the lead to one, 4-3, in the fifth but the Colonels responded with two more runs in the sixth to extend their lead. Waters hit another solo homer in the seventh inning but NT fell two runs short.
North Texas returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 22 when it faces
