DENTON (2/21/06) - The North Texas softball team plays its first Big XII opponent on Wednesday night with a 5 pm match-up against Oklahoma State at Denia Park.
The Mean Green (4-6) is 2-2 in the series against the Cowgirls, including a split last year. NT defeated OSU, 4-3, on the road last season. With a record of 4-6, North Texas is off to its best start through 10 games in the three-year history of the program.
Oklahoma State is 2-4 on the year with wins against Sacramento State and UT-San Antonio. NT is 2-15 against Big XII opponents with both of its wins coming against the Cowgirls.
Junior Susan Waters' bat is getting hot. On Monday, she went 5-for-8 with six RBI in the combined two games. She hit two solo home runs in the 6-4 loss, a feat she has done twice before. Last year, Waters hit two home runs in a single game against Stephen F. Austin. She has posted 17 career home runs, which leads the program. Waters' first home run came in NT's inaugural game in 2004 against Texas A&M. Not only was it her first hit, it was also the program's first hit and first home run.
Waters set a school record in the 6-4 loss to Nicholls State, posting 10 total bases. Sophomore Katya Muller had set the record last week with nine total bases against Sam Houston State.
North Texas continues to play its home portion of its schedule at Denia Park, located off Fort Worth Drive in Denton.
