Fowler No-Hitter Highlight's Mean Green Softball Sweep

DENTON (3/1/06) Behind the pitching of Kristina Fowler, the North Texas softball team swept its doubleheader against Louisiana-Monroe at Denia Park.

Fowler (7-3) threw the first no-hitter in North Texas history in the opening 8-0 win, and later gave up only one hit in three innings for a 4-3 win in game two. The wins give the Mean Green (9-8) its best start in the program’s three-year history.

Fowler was nothing short of amazing in both games. The sophomore allowed only two walks, while striking out five in the first contest. Fowler managed three strikeouts in her abbreviated appearance in game two.

The Mean Green is now 3-0 this season against the Lady Indians (10-8), and 4-0 all time.

North Texas used late-inning explosions to knock off UL-Monroe. The Mean Green scored seven runs in the final two innings of game one, and all four of its runs in the sixth inning of the second.

Sophomore Katya Muller led the Mean Green at the plate, notching a pair of doubles and four total hits in the doubleheader. Junior Susan Waters also had three hits and the game-ending triple in the fifth inning of the early match.

The Mean Green takes a week off before facing second ranked Texas (17-1) next Wednesday, March 8 in Austin.
