DENTON (3/10/06) - The North Texas softball team looks to return to winning ways when it competes in the OU/Worth Invitational this weekend. The Mean Green will play both No. 14 Oklahoma and Utah Valley State twice.
Despite losing both games of a doubleheader to No. 2 Texas on Wednesday night, North Texas (9-10) is off to its best start through 19 games in the three-year history of the program. The Mean Green is 0-2 against ranked opponents this year and will try again this weekend against nationally-ranked OU.
The Mean Green picked up its first honors of the season this past week when Kristina Fowler was named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week for her play against Louisiana-Monroe. Junior Susan Waters was a preseason All-Sun Belt honoree.
North Texas is competing in the OU/Worth Invitational for the second straight year. The Mean Green went 0-5 last year with losses to Lipscomb, Creighton and Oklahoma. NT is 0-5 in the series against Oklahoma and is playing Utah Valley State for the first time.
