Fowler Pitches One-Hitter In 7-0 Victory

Norman, Okla. (3/12/06) Sophomore Kristina Fowler pitched a one-hitter to lead the North Texas softball team to a 7-0 victory against Utah Valley State on Sunday morning at the OU Softball Complex. The Mean Green lost to No. 14 Oklahoma, 10-5, in its final game of the OU/Worth Invitational.

The Mean Green (11-12) went 2-2 in the tournament with two victories against Utah Valley State.

Fowler pitched seven innings in the win against Utah Valley State, allowing one hit and striking out six batters. The Mean Green offense backed Fowler up in the later innings, posting 10 hits. Senior Kelei Walker and sophomore Kristin Holder led the way with two hits each.

The Mean Green posted 10 hits against the Sooners but left seven runners stranded. Junior Susan Waters led the offense in the first five innings, posting two home runs. It was the second time this season and fourth in her career that she recorded two home runs in a single game. Waters led the team in the tournament with seven hits.

NT put itself in a hole early with OU taking a 10-2 lead going into the seventh inning. The Mean Green scored two runs off two hits and two OU errors but was unable to push anymore runs home.

North Texas returns to action on Tuesday, March 14 when it travels to Wichita, Kan., to play Wichita State.
