DENTON (3/7/06) - Sophomore Kristina Fowler was named the Sun Belt Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week after leading North Texas to two victories last Wednesday.
Fowler posted an ERA of 0.00 and won two games in two appearances this past week. In the 8-0 win against Louisiana-Monroe, she won her sixth game of the season and pitched her first career no-hitter (five innings). In the 4-3 nightcap win against the Indians, Fowler relieved starter Jessica Smith in the fifth inning and allowed only one hit the rest of the way. She struck out three in the bottom of the seventh to seal the victory.
Fowler is currently 7-3 this season with an ERA of 3.57. She has won seven games in eight starts and 15 appearances. The Meekings, Okla., native has pitched six complete games and recorded one save this season.
Fowler and the North Texas squad return to action on Wednesday, March 8 when they face No. 2 Texas in Austin for a doubleheader.
