Austin, Texas (3/8/06) Cat Osterman posted her fourth no-hitter of the season as No. 2 Texas defeated North Texas, 5-0, in softball action on Wednesday night. The Longhorns defeated the Mean Green, 9-1, in the nightcap.
North Texas drops to 9-10 with the two losses and 0-4 against Texas. The Mean Green is 0-1 this season against ranked opponents.
In the first game, Osterman did not allow any Mean Green hits and struck out 16 North Texas batters in seven innings of work. The Longhorns exploded for five runs in the third inning, including a two-run homer by Desiree Williams.
Sophomore Kristina Fowler (7-4) took the loss on the mound for the Mean Green in the first game. She allowed five runs on seven hits in six innings of work.
North Texas was outhit in the second game, 11-2. Senior Kelei Walker posted the first hit of the night for the Mean Green with a single in the fourth inning. She was left stranded on base.
In the fifth inning, North Texas scored its first run of the night off an RBI by sophomore Katya Muller. Junior Danielle Rupp scored after reaching base with a single.
The Longhorns tacked on four runs in the fifth inning to take the win on the run rule.
North Texas returns to action this weekend when it competes in the OU/Worth Invitational.
