Softball Breaks From Conference Play With Game Against SFA

Nacagdoches (4/19/06)- The North Texas softball team takes a break from conference play with a Wednesday afternoon match-up against Stephen F. Austin at 3 pm. The Mean Green is 17-26 overall and went 1-1 against the Jacks last year.
The Mean Green continued its success at the plate last week.North Texas tied a season high with 12 hits in the 8-2 win against Middle Tennessee. The team also posted a season-high six doubles in the win. For the second time in her career, sophomore Katya Muller hit a lead-off home run to start the game against Middle Tennessee. Th e shorstop connected on a 2-0 count and sent the ball straight out to center field. Th e home run gave NT an early 1-0 lead as it went on to win, 8-2. Muller posted a lead-off home run last year against New Mexico State.
Senior Kelei Walker posted three doubles in the series against Middle Tennessee, including two in the 8-2 win. It was the third time in her career that she has posted two doubles in a single game. Walker posted four hits in the three games against MT, all for extra bases. Walker also posted a triple. She is second on the team with 11 doubles, topping her season best of 10 set during her sophomore year. Walker trails Susan Waters for the season doubles record (13) and the career record. Waters currently has 31 career doubles, while Walker is second with 25.
Susan Waters is among the leaders in the Sun Belt conference. She is second in overall hits (48), tied for first in doubles (13), third in RBI (38) and fourth in home runs (13). She is third in overall batting in the conference (.348).
North Texas hosts Louisiana-Lafayette this weekend in its final homestand. The Mean Green is 1-5 in Sun Belt play.
