Mean Green Softball Hosts No. 13 Ragin' Cajuns This Weekend

DENTON (4/21/06) - Four of the top home runs hitters in the country will be in town this weekend for the conference match-up between the North Texas softball team and the No. 13 Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns at Denia Park.
The Mean Green (18-27, 1-5 Sun Belt) is looking to pick up a few more conference wins, while the Ragin' Cajuns (32-8, 4-2 Sun Belt) look to stay atop the Sun Belt standings. NT is winless against the Ragin' Cajuns with an 0-9 series record.
The nationally-ranked Ragin' Cajuns are led by three of the top home run leaders in the country, including Danyele Gomez who is tied for first with 22 home runs. First baseman Lacy Bertucci is sixth with 17 home runs, and outfielder Ashley Evans is tied for 10th with 15 home runs.
NT's Susan Waters is currently tied for 13th with 14 home runs. She posted her team-leading 14th home run in the first game against Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday. She leads the team with a .347 batting average, 50 hits, 13 doubles and four triples. Waters holds the program's season and career record for home runs. She started the program off on the right foot in 2004; posting the team's first-ever home run and hit in the season opener against Texas A&M.
The rest of the Mean Green are also posting career bests. Sophomores Katya Muller and Kristina Fowler have more than doubled their numbers from last year with more than 10 games remaining in the season. Muller is second on the team with seven home runs and 24 RBI. Fowler recorded her third home run of the season against SFA and is third on the team with nine doubles.
Fowler and freshman Kadie Platt are leading the way in conference games with six hits apiece. In six conference games, Platt has posted a .375 batting average with five runs batted in.
The action starts on Saturday with a doubleheader at 2 pm and ends with a single game at noon on Sunday. The games are played at Denia Park, located off Fort Worth Drive in Denton. Admission and parking is free.
