Mean Green Wins 11-Inning Marathon

Troy, AL (4/29/06) - The North Texas softball team won one of two extra-inning games against Troy on Saturday afternoon at the Troy Softball Complex. The Mean Green won a 1-0 11-inning game and then dropped a 5-4 decision in 10 innings in the nightcap.
The Mean Green (19-32, 2-9) goes to 4-1 this season in extra-inning games and played a school record 11-inning game. NT played three eight-inning games this season and two nine-inning matches last season.
Sophomore Kristina Fowler (16-18) pitched a combined 16 innings in two games. She picked up her first conference win of the season in the first game, pitching a school record 11 innings, allowing only three hits. She took the loss in the second game, pitching the last five innings.
Sophomore Katya Muller posted six hits in the two games, including the game-winning single in the 11th inning of the 1-0 victory. Muller knocked in junior Christen Jonse who was placed on second to start the inning. Muller recorded two of NT’s five hits in the game. She tied a school record with four hits in the second game, the second time she has accomplished the feat.
Susan Waters gave North Texas a 3-0 lead in the third inning of the second game with her team-leading 16th home run.Troy scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning off three walks and two hits and then tied the game in the sixth with an RBI double.
Junior Monica Garcia gave North Texas a 4-3 lead in the 10th inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Fowler. Troy, however, responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to seal the victory.
North Texas returns to action on Sunday, April 30 when it faces Troy at noon.
