Mean Green Softball Wins Series Against Troy

Troy, AL (4/30/06) - The North Texas softball team won the series against Troy after securing a 4-3 victory on Sunday afternoon at the Troy Softball Complex. The Mean Green won two of the three games against the Trojans this weekend.
The Mean Green (20-32, 3-9) won its first conference series and takes a 2-1 all-time advantage against Troy. The Trojans fall to 28-35 and 5-7 in the Sun Belt.
Sophomore Kristina Fowler (17-18) won her second game in the circle this weekend for the Mean Green. She pitched 4.1 innings and allowed three runs off seven hits. Junior Anne Morton earned the first save of her career after pitching 2.2 scorless innings. Troy went hitless after Morton entered the game. In the three-game series against Troy, Fowler pitched 20.1 innings, including an 11-inning marathon on Saturday.
For the second game in a row, junior Susan Waters gave North Texas an early 3-0 lead with her 17th home run of the season in the first inning. Katya Muller started the inning with a single and freshman Kadie Platt followed with a walk. Junior Christen Jonse scored the winning run in the second inning off a wild pitch. She started the inning off with a single and moved around the bases on a sacrifice bunt and Muller’s second single of the game.
Muller batted .571 in the three games against Troy, going 8-for-14. She knocked in the game-winning run in the 11th inning of NT’s first game against Troy. She posted four hits in the 5-4 loss, tying a school record.
Waters posted two home runs in the series, increasing her season total to 17. She is the team’s single-season and career leader in home runs and is ranked in the top 20 nationally for home runs hit this season.
Troy outhit North Texas, 7-5, in the 4-3 loss and left nine runners stranded on base. The Trojans scored two runs in the third inning off a two-run homer and then added an unearned run in the fourth.
North Texas plays its final non-conference game this week when it faces Oklahoma on Wednesday, May 3 in Norman at 7 pm.
