Norman, OK (5/3/06) - The North Texas softball team rounds out non-conference play with a single game against No. 21 Oklahoma tonight at 7 pm. The Mean Green is 0-3 this season against the Sooners.
North Texas (20-32) has one more weekend of regular season play before the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Miami.
Junior Susan Waters and sophomore Katya Muller are leading the team offensively. Waters hit two home runs last week, increasing her total to 17 on the season. She is ranked 10th in the nation in most home runs hit and is listed among the NCAA leaders for home runs and RBI per game and slugging percentage. The third basemen is 15th in home runs per game (.33) and 25th in RBI per game (.96). She is also 23rd in slugging percentage (.766).
Muller has increased her overall batting average to .309 after posting nine hits last week. She batted .571 in the three-game series against Troy, leading the Mean Green to two wins. She went 8-for-14 in three games, including a four-hit performance in the 5-4 loss. She tied a school record with the four hits in a single game. In the 1-0 victory, Muller knocked in the game-winning run in the top of the 11th inning with a single. She posted a .643 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage in the three games, which was key in the series because she was on base both times when Susan Waters hit her two long balls, giving North Texas early leads.
