Mean Green Softball Rounds Out Action At The University Classic

DENTON (10/6/07) The North Texas softball team won two of three games in the final day of action at the University Classic on Saturday at Lovelace Stadium.

The Mean Green won five of six games in the two-day tournament. On Saturday, North Texas picked up wins against Howard Payne (7-1) and Paris (10-2). NT lost the final game of the day, 6-3, against North Central.

The Mean Green outhit all three teams. In the second game against Paris, North Texas posted 14 hits. Senior Lauren Bergstrom led the way in that game with three hits and an RBI. Freshman Renae Bromley posted two hits and knocked in two runs in the fifth inning.

Junior Sarah Jones had a great hitting weekend. She posted two doubles against Howard Payne and one extra-base hit against North Central. She recorded five hits on the day.

Senior Heather Bostic hit a three-run home run in the first game against Howard Payne. She also posted two hits against Paris.

Pitchers Ashley Lail, Jennifer Smith and Kristina Fowler all saw action in the circle for the Mean Green. Smith struck out nine batters in four innings of action against Paris.
