Mean Green Softball Drops Two Games In Texas Classic

Austin, Texas (2/17/07) - The North Texas softball team lost games to San Diego State and No. 10 Texas in day two of the Texas Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Mean Green lost to San Diego State, 4-0, in the first game and then fell to No. 10 Texas, 7-1 in bracket play.
The Mean Green (3-6) is 1-3 after two days of tournament action. NT won its first game of the tournament, 10-1, against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. North Texas is 0-2 in the series against San Diego State and 0-6 against the Longhorms.
San Diego State outhit North Texas, 8-5, and was aided by two Mean Green errors. Only one of the four San Diego State runs was earned.
Meagan Denny pitched a two-hitter for the Longhorns. She hurled a no-hitter through five and two thirds innings. Senior Susan Waters singled to break up the no-hitter in the sixth inning. Katya Muller knocked in the team’s only run with a single, scoring Monica Garcia from third. Garcia reached base after getting hit by a pitch.
Waters and Muller led the offense with two hits apiece in the combined two games.
Sophomore Ashley Lail (2-2) took the two losses in the circle for the Mean Green. Against San Diego State, she allowed four runs, one earned off eight hits.
North Texas returns to tournament action on Sunday, Feb. 18 when it plays for third place at 10 am.
