Waters Homers In Loss

Tulsa, Okla. (3/2/07) - Senior Susan Waters hit her team-leading fifth home run of the season in a 14-1 loss to Tulsa on Friday afternoon in day one action at the Great Western Downtown Classic. The Mean Green lost its first game of the day, 9-1, against Iowa State.
The Mean Green (3-13) has lost 10 straight and is 0-1 in the series against Iowa State (4-12) and 1-2 versus Tulsa (9-9).
Waters, a Preseason All-Sun Belt selection, hit her fifth home run of the season in the fourth inning against Tulsa. The third basemen posted one of NT’s two hits in the game. Waters also posted a hit in the loss to Iowa State.
The Mean Green was outhit 12-4 in the first game against Iowa State. Kyleigh Callender went 2-for-2 with an RBI double in the fifth inning. Sarah Jones scored on the play after getting on base with a single. Jones also posted a hit against Tulsa.
Tulsa outhit the Mean Green, 15-2, in the nightcap. The Golden Hurricane scored eight runs in the first two innings, including two home runs in the first inning.
Freshman Kayla Lawson lost both games in the circle for the Mean Green.
North Texas returns to action on Saturday, March 3 when it faces Kansas at 1:30 pm in second-day action of the Tulsa Invitational.
