Owls Score Eight Runs In Victory

Boca Raton, FL (3/24/07) - The North Texas softball team scored first, but Florida Atlantic scored eight runs in three innings to defeat the Mean Green, 8-1, on Saturday night at the FAU Softball Stadium.
The game was shortened to five innings due to light failure at FAU Stadium. The two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow, beginning at 9 am, central time.
The Mean Green (10-21, 4-3 Sun Belt) lost the first meeting between the two teams. In their first year in the Sun Belt Conference, the Owls extend their record to 19-13 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
After allowing two hits and one unearned run in the first inning, Jen Musillo and the FAU Owls shut down the Mean Green for the next four innings. Susan Waters posted the first hit of the game with a single down the left side of the field. She scored the Mean Green’s only run of the game following a Kristina Fowler single and a FAU error in the outfield.
Musillo (7-7) struck out eight NT batters in four innings of work. Fowler (3-10) took the loss for the Mean Green, giving up eight runs off 11 hits. The Owls outhit the Mean Green, 12-2.
Blair Bodenmiller led FAU with two hits and five RBI. She put the Owls on the scoreboard with a two-run homer in the second inning. She knocked in two more runs with a double in the three-run fourth inning for the Owls. Mandie Fishback started off the third inning with a solo long ball to give the Owls a 3-1 advantage.
North Texas will play two games instead of one on Sunday, March 25, beginning at 9 am, central time, against Florida Atlantic.
