Arkansas Scores Early Runs In Victory

Fayetteville, AR (3/6/07) - The Arkansas softball team scored early runs to defeat North Texas, 7-3, on Tuesday afternoon at Lady’Back Yard.
The Mean Green (3-17) has lost 14 straight and is 0-1 in the series against the Razorbacks. Arkansas improves to 10-14 on the season.
Arkansas scored three runs in each of the second and third innings to take an early 6-0 lead. Dayna Huckabee started the offense with a home run to left field in the bottom of the second inning. The Lady Razorbacks added two unearned runs in the same inning off two Mean Green errors. Four singles and another Mean Green error led to three more runs for Arkansas in the third inning. There were a combined six errors in the game.
Kadie Platt knocked in both of NT’s runs. The sophomore hit into a fielder’s choice in the fourth inning, scoring Monica Garcia. Platt doubled in the sixth inning, which scored Lauren Bergstrom from third. Bergstrom pinch ran for Garcia, who singled to get on base.
Garcia and junior Katya Muller both had multi-hit games for the Mean Green with two hits apiece.
Kristina Fowler (0-8) took the loss for the Mean Green after giving up three earned runs off five hits. The junior hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to give North Texas its third run. The home run was the first of the season for Fowler.
Arkansas outhit the Mean Green, 8-7. North Texas left eight runners stranded on base.
North Texas returns to action on Saturday, March 10 when the Mean Green opens conference play against Louisiana Monroe at Lovelace Stadium at 1 and 3 pm.
