Softball Falls To No. 3 Oklahoma

DENTON (4/11/07) - The No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners used a five-run fourth inning to defeat the North Texas softball team, 9-2, on Wednesday night at Lovelace Stadium.
The Mean Green drops to 16-27 overall, while Oklahoma extends its record to 42-4. North Texas is now 0-11 in the series with the Sooners.
In front of a season-high crowd, the Sooners scored a run early and then took a 6-0 lead after a five-run fourth inning. OU used three hits and a Mean Green error to score five runs.
Lauren Eckermann won her 26th game of the year, allowing only five Mean Green hits. She struck out nine in seven innings of work. Freshman Kayla Lawson took the loss for the Mean Green, pitching three and one-thirds innings. She allowed five runs and four hits.
Sophomore Kadie Platt knocked in NT’s two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Her fifth double of the year knocked in Rebecca Waters and Sierra Scott. Waters walked to get on base, and Scott pinch ran for Christen Jonse, who also doubled in the inning.
Sophomore Sarah Jones led the Mean Green offense with two hits. Samantha Ricketts led the OU offense with four hits and four RBI. Rickett’s single in the fifth inning knocked in two more OU runs. She then capped the scoring with an RBI single in the seventh inning.
North Texas returns to action on Saturday, April 14 when it faces Troy at home at 1 pm.
