Garcia Hits Home Run In Loss To Western Kentucky

Bowling Green, KY (4/21/07) - Senior Monica Garcia hit her second home run of the season, but Western Kentucky held on for a 5-2 victory against the North Texas softball team on Saturday afternoon at the WKU Softball Complex. The Mean Green was shutout in the second game, 2-0
The Mean Green (19-31, 9-11 Sun Belt) is 8-8 in the series with the Hilltoppers (25-23, 8-6 Sun Belt) and 4-15 on the road this season.
Garcia hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning but it was not enough to overcome a five-run deficit. The senior went 3-for-3 in the first game and led the offense with five hits in the combined two games. WKU used two home runs and a Mean Green error to win the first game of the doubleheader. North Texas stranded 21 baserunners in the game.
Freshman Kayla Lawson (3-6) took the loss for the Mean Green in the first game. She pitched four and 2/3 innings, allowing four earned runs and eight hits. North Texas outhit WKU, 10-9, in the first half of the doubleheader.
Sophomore Ashley Lail pitched the second game and fell to 10-13 overall in the circle. She allowed just one earned run and eight hits. The Mean Green left 12 runners stranded in the nightcap.
WKU scored an unearned run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead and then added an insurance run in the sixth.
North Texas rounds out play with Bowling Green with a single game on Sunday at 12 pm.
