Softball Defeats UT-Arlington, 6-3

Arlington, Texas (4/25/07) - The North Texas softball team jumped out to an early lead in the first inning and remained in control as the Mean Green defeated UT-Arlington, 6-3, on Wednesday night at Allan Saxe Field.
The Mean Green improves to 19-31 overall and 2-3 against the Mavericks. North Texas lost to UTA, 1-0, in extra innings on April 4.
UT-Arlington outhit the Mean Green, 8-7, but North Texas had timely hitting and capitalized on four UTA errors.
Katya Muller led off the game with a single. Off a double steal, Muller stole home to give North Texas a 1-0 lead in the first. Susan Waters scored the next run after Christen Jonse reached base on an error. After a single by Sarah Jones, Kadie Platt made it 3-0 with an RBI single.
UTA cut the lead to one run, 3-2, in the third inning off three hits. April Clougherty’s single to left field knocked in the two UT-Arlington runs.
Kristina Fowler picked up her sixth win of the season after relieving starter Kayla Lawson in the third inning. Fowler struck out the final two batters in the third to end UTA’s rally. The junior pitched four and 2/3 innings, striking out seven batters.
Monica Garcia brought home another Mean Green run in the fifth with an RBI single. Lauren Bergstrom scored after starting the inning off with a single. She and Muller led the offense with two hits each. Bergstrom also started the seventh inning with a single. She later scored on a passed ball. Muller scored NT’s final run on UTA’s fourth error of the game.
North Texas returns to action on Saturday, April 28 when it faces Louisiana-Lafayette at home at 1 pm.
