No. 22 Ragin' Cajuns Sweep Doubleheader

DENTON (4/28/07) - The No. 22 Louisiana-Lafayette softball team scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 6-5 victory against North Texas on Saturday afternoon at Lovelace Stadium. The Mean Green lost the nightcap, 12-3.
The Mean Green (19-33, 10-13 Sun Belt) is now 0-15 in the all-time series with the Ragin’ Cajuns. ULL extends its overall record to 41-13 and 12-8 in the conference.
In the first game, North Texas held a 3-0 lead before Lacey Bertucci tied the game with a three-run home run in the fifth inning. After the Ragin’ Cajuns took a 4-3 lead, senior Christen Jonse tied the game with a solo home run in the sixth inning. UL-Lafayette scored two unearned runs off two Mean Green errors in the top of the seventh to take the permanent lead.
Susan Waters hit her conference-leading 16th home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and no one on base to make the score 6-5. Kristina Fowler struck out to end the Mean Green rally.
Lauren Bergstrom knocked in the first two runs of the first game for the Mean Green in the second inning with a single down the left field line. The inning ended with Bergstrom trying to stretch the single into a double. Fowler hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning to give North Texas its largest lead of the day, 3-0.
In the second game, the Ragin’ Cajuns jumped out early, scoring six runs in the first inning. The Mean Green was hurt by two errors; only one of the six runs was earned. Katya Muller scored NT’s first run of the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the third. NT added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth off an by the Ragin’ Cajuns’ and an RBI single by Fowler. ULL extended its lead with four runs in the last two innings.
Brittany Cuevas started both games for the Ragin’ Cajuns. She won the second game, pitching seven innings and allowing three runs and five hits. She was pulled in the third inning of the first game after giving up three runs.
North Texas returns to action on Sunday, April 29 when it faces Louisiana-Lafayette at home at 1 pm.
