DENTON (4/3/07) - Senior Susan Waters was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week after leading the North Texas softball team to four wins last week.
The third baseman batted .353 with four home runs and nine RBI in five games last week. The Mean Green went 4-1 with wins against UMKC, Texas Tech and FIU. Waters posted two home runs in the 8-3 victory against UMKC to start off the week. On the very next day, she posted a three-run home run on the road against Texas Tech, leading the Mean Green to a 4-1 victory. The win was the first of the season against a Big XII team. She hit her 13th home run of the season in the team’s 8-2 victory against FIU for NT’s first-ever win against the Golden Panthers.
The preseason All-Sun Belt selection has hit eight home runs in the last 10 games. She is five home runs shy of tying the single-season school record that she set last year. Waters holds the career record with 45. The 13 home runs leads the Mean Green and the Sun Belt.
Waters leads the team with a .375 batting average, 36 runs scored, 42 hits, 32 RBI and 89 total bases. The 36 runs scored and 89 total bases also leads the Sun Belt Conference.
North Texas returns to action on Wednesday, April 4 when it hosts Texas-Arlington at 6 pm at Lovelace Stadium.
