Middle Tennessee Sweeps Softball Doubleheader

Murfreesboro, TN (4/7/07) - The North Texas softball team left the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning as Middle Tennessee held on for a 3-1 victory on Saturday afternoon at Blue Raider Field. The Mean Green lost the second game of the doubleheader, 3-0.
The Mean Green (15-26, 7-7) has lost its last three games, while the Blue Raiders (20-21, 9-5) take an 8-6 lead in the series against NT. In the last 22 innings, the Mean Green has scored only one run.
North Texas left nine runners stranded in the 3-1 loss, including a bases-loaded opportunity in the seventh. In the combined two games, the Mean Green left 13 runners on base and was outhit, 15-10. NT was unable to capitalize on MT’s four errors in the first game. In the nightcap, the Blue Raiders scored its first run off a throwing error by the Mean Green.
Kristina Fowler posted the lone RBI for the Mean Green in the fourth inning of the first game. Senior Susan Waters started the inning with a double and advanced to third off a sacrifice bunt. Fowler brought her home with a groundout to the second baseman. The Mean Green left two runners stranded after a Rebecca Waters’ double and a single by Kadie Platt.
Katya Muller led the Mean Green offense with three hits in the combined two games. With her scored run in the fourth inning of the first game, Susan Waters set the single-season record at North Texas for runs scored with 37. She surpassed her own record of 36 set last season.
North Texas returns to action when it closes out play against Middle Tennessee on Sunday, April 8 at 11 am.
