DENTON (5/11/07) - The North Texas softball team looks to stay alive in conference tournament play with an elimination game against Western Kentucky today at 10 am at the MT Softball Complex. The winner of the game will play Troy at 3 pm.
With its 9-2 loss to Troy yesterday, the Mean Green fell to 0-4 in second round conference tournament games. NT is now 6-7 all-time in the conference tournament.
North Texas is 1-2 this season against Western Kentucky and 9-8 all-time in the series. The Mean Green is 3-0 against the Hilltoppers in the conference tournament. NT defeated Western Kentucky twice last year in the tournament.
Kristina Fowler proved to be a thorn in WKU's side last year during the SBC tournament. In the two games against WKU, Fowler picked up the wins in the circle and the two game-winning hits.
Western Kentucky drew the No. 6 seed in the tournament, while North Texas received the No. 7 seed. The Hilltoppers and the Mean Green both had a hand in eliminating second seed Louisiana-Lafayette. North Texas gave the Ragin' Cajuns its first loss in the tournament and the Hilltoppers sent ULL home with a victory. The No. 8 seed FIU also posted an upset with a 15-inning victory against top-seeded FAU.
