Softball Hosts Final Home Game Today

DENTON (5/2/07) - The North Texas softball team rounds out its home schedule at Lovelace Stadium with a doubleheader against Stephen. F. Austin this afternoon beginning at 3 pm.
The Mean Green (19-34) wrapped up Sun Belt conference play with three losses to No. 22 Louisiana-Lafayette this past weekend. NT is now 0-16 against the Ragin’ Cajuns and finishes conference play with a 10-14 record. In its last week of regular season play, the Mean Green hosts Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday. The Mean Green's game versus Centenary for Friday was canceled. NT is 2-2 against SFA.
The North Texas softball program honored its six seniors on Sunday, April 29 before its 1 pm game against Louisiana-Lafayette. Heather Bostic, Monica Garcia, Christen Jonse, Maureen Kelley, Danielle Rupp and Susan Waters are the first student-athletes to wear a North Texas uniform in the first four years of the program.
Susan Waters is one of the most decorated players in the young North Texas softball program. She holds 12 single-season school records and 14 career records. She leads the team with a .344 batting average, 43 runs scored, 16 home runs and 37 RBI. The 43 runs scored is a single-season school record and the 16 home runs is two shy of tying her single-season record of 18. Waters holds the career home run record with 48.
Waters was one of three Mean Green players to hit home runs last week, increasing the team season total to 37. The school record is 44, set last year. Senior Christen Jonse hit her fifth home run of the season against the Ragin' Cajuns over the weekend. The five homers is a personal best. Junior Katya Muller hit three against ULL, doubling her total to six.
Muller leads the team with 59 hits, which is 10 shy of tying her single-season school record. The shortstop set the school record last year with 69 hits.
The Mean Green set a school record with 32 turned double plays this season. The previous record of 30 was set by the 2004 team which played 79 games. North Texas is ranked second in the nation in double plays per game (.61)
