DENTON, TEXAS (8/28/07) - University of North Texas softball coach TJ Hubbard completed the hiring of his coaching staff with the addition of Jenn Cody as an assistant coach. Cody will serve as the pitching coach and will also assist with recruiting duties and game management.
"Jenn brings an intensity and competitive fire to our team," said Hubbard. "She has a very competitive background as a player and a coach. With her coaching experience at Minnesota and her playing experience in the ACC, Jenn knows what is necessary to compete and win at this level."
Cody spent the last five years as an assistant coach at the University of Minnesota, where she oversaw the pitching staff. She started her coaching career at Florida A&M as an assistant coach during the 2001-02 season.
Cody, formerly White, was a four-year letterwinner for the Florida State softball program from 1998-2001. A strong hitting pitcher, Cody was an all-region selection as a freshman and senior. Over the course of her career, she was named the NFCA Outstanding Player, the ACC Pitcher of the Week twice, ACC Player of the Week twice, SASA Pitcher of the Week twice and SASA Player of the Week once.
Cody finished her career at FSU on a high note. She hit .320 and had a 0.63 ERA her senior season. During that 2001 season, she helped lead FSU to a No. 15 ranking and was named the team’s MVP for her performance in the circle and at the plate. In her final 12 appearances in the circle, Cody went 9-0 with a 0.22 ERA with six shutouts.
As part of the Florida State pitching staff, Cody combined with two other pitchers for the lowest earned-run-average in Division I softball during the 2001 season, as they earned the NCAA ERA title for the first time in school history. The staff posted a 0.71 team ERA on the year, which was .06 better than the mark set by the national champion Arizona Wildcats.
Cody compiled a 74-39 (.655) overall pitching record during her collegiate career. She was selected to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) 50th Anniversary Team, which honors the greatest athletes to ever compete in the ACC.
A graduate of FSU, Cody earned a bachelor’s degree in social science education in 2002. A native of Tuttle, Okla., Cody was an All-American player at Tuttle High School.
