Mean Green Softball Opens Season On Saturday At Home

DENTON, TEXAS (2/8/08) - The North Texas softball team opens its season on Saturday, Feb. 9 against Creighton in the Quality Inn & Suites/Point Bank Invitational at 3 pm at Lovelace Stadium. The Mean Green is opening its season at home for the first time in the history of the program. Tulsa and Texas State are also participating in the North Texas tournament.
TJ Hubbard begins his first season as head coach of the Mean Green. He served as an assistant coach at North Texas for the previous four years. He brought in two new assistants: Jenn Cody and Erin Evans.
North Texas is a combined 5-5 against its upcoming three opponents. The Mean Green is 2-2 against Creighton, 2-1 against Texas State and 1-2 versus Tulsa. The Mean Green lost by its largest margin of the season to Tulsa, 14-1, at the Tulsa Invitational last year. The Mean Green will face Creighton and Texas State once and Tulsa twice.
For the second straight year, the Mean Green will play in the friendly confines of Lovelace Stadium. For the first time in the four-year history of the program, North Texas secured a winning record at home in 2007. NT posted a 12-11 record last year at Lovelace Stadium.The Mean Green is 2-2 in home openers and 0-1 in home openers at Lovelace Stadium.
Katya Muller was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Team. Muller was a first-team All-Sun Belt honoree last year after leading the Mean Green with 63 hits, the third most in school history. She also led the team with 17 multi-hit games and 13 doubles. The shortstop finished second on team with a .332 batting average, which tied for second on the single-season record list.
Tickets can be purchased at the gate. A two-day pass is $7 for adults and $5 for children. A single-day pass: is $5 for adults and $3 for children.
