Cantler Knocks In Game-Winning Run Against Texas Tech

The Mean Green improves to 12-16 overall and ties the series against Texas Tech at 2-2. The Red Raiders fall to 7-22.
Mallory Cantler knocked in the game-winning run with a single up the middle in the bottom of the seventh. The Mean Green loaded the bases for the freshman after Texas Tech committed two fielding errors in the inning.
“It was a hard-fought game,” said
Cantler went 3-for-4 in the game with two RBI. She knocked in the team’s second run of the game with an RBI double in the sixth inning. The first baseman has posted multi-hit games in the last five games.
“Mallory has been on fire,” said Hubbard. “She has been hitting good pitches and taking good swings. The whole team has been hitting well.”
Rebecca Waters hit her third home run in the last four games to put
Texas Tech took the lead, 2-1, in the fifth inning with a two-RBI single. The Red Raiders added to the lead with a run in the sixth.
Mariza Martinez started the comeback for the Mean Green with a single to the outfield in the sixth but ended up on third when a Red Raider was unable to come up with the ball cleanly. Cantler knocked her home with her team-leading eighth double of the season.
Cantler’s game-winning hit was the only hit in the seventh inning even though seven Mean Green players went up to bat. Two errors, a walk and a hit batter helped the Mean Green score two runs to take the win.
Kayla Lawson picked up her fifth win of the season after pitching a scoreless seventh inning. Kristina Fowler started the game and allowed three runs off eight hits in six innings of work.
