Mean Green Softball Falls To FIU, 7-4

MIAMI (3/30/08) For the second game in a row, Ashley Falk hit a home run to lead the FIorida International softball team to a 7-4 victory against North Texas on Sunday afternoon at University Park.
The Mean Green falls to 17-20 overall and 7-5 in the Sun Belt, while FIU extends its record to 20-23 and 6-2 in the conference. The Golden Panthers take the series after winning two of the three games this weekend and increase its series record against NT to 16-3.
Ashley Falk hit a three-homer in FIU’s four-run fourth inning to take a 7-0 lead against the Mean Green. The outfielder hit a grand slam in Saturday’s victory against NT. North Texas was hurt by two errors, extending the fourth inning and leading to four unearned runs.
The Mean Green scored four runs in the sixth inning to get on the scoreboard but left two runners stranded in the seventh to halt the comeback. Sarah Jones, Rebecca Waters and Courtney Bradshaw hit consecutive RBI singles to put the four runs on the board.
Jennifer Smith picked up the loss for the Mean Green, pitching two innings and giving up the first three runs.
Muller led the team offensively in the three-game series with six hits, including a four-hit performance in Saturday’s loss. Bradshaw knocked in a team-high three RBI in the series.
North Texas returns to action on Tuesday, April 1 when it faces
