WKU Softball Wins Deciding Third Game In Conference Series

DENTON, Texas (4/20/08) Kristina Fowler and Courtney Bradshaw hit home runs for the North Texas softball team, but the Mean Green came up short in a 5-3 loss to Western Kentucky on Sunday afternoon at Lovelace Stadium.

The Mean Green falls to 24-28 and 9-12 in the conference, while the Hilltoppers extend their record to 18-26 and 4-13 in the Sun Belt.

Western Kentucky took an early 3-0 lead with a home run by Terri Ellingsworth in the second inning. WKU tacked on two more runs and that was enough to take the deciding game in the three-game series. North Texas has lost its last four conference series.

Fowler cut into the 3-0 lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the third. The long ball was the fifth of the season for the senior. Sarah Jones started the rally in the seventh with a single. Bradshaw brought her home with a two-run shot to center field that hit off the scoreboard.

WKU outhit the Mean Green, 7-5 in the game. The Mean Green was hurt by two errors.

North Texas returns to action on Wednesday, April 23 when it faces Louisiana-Lafayette on the road.
