Pitching And Catching Camp Information
4/30/2008 12:00:00 AM | Softball
The North Texas pitching and catching camp will be a great opportunity to advance your pitching or catching skills. We will have a couple of guest instructors and it will be a way for your athlete to really advance her knowledge in one of these particular skills. The pitchers and catchers will be split up for their individual skill workouts but then be brought back together to work on skills as a battery. Pitchers need to bring a catcher. If you don't have a catcher attending, a father or brother can be used. If you absolutely can’t find anyone, please let me know in advance so we can work something out. All ages are welcome.
Pitching:
You will learn about the fundamentals of pitching as well as the dynamics of particular pitches, depending on age and development. You will definitely get the complete package. The pitchers will be divided into age groups, so they will get the maximum out of the two days. We also have two very special guests who will be teaching and demonstrating.
Harold Copas
Copas, hailing from Oklahoma, was actually my pitching coach and what a great job he did! He is currently the pitching coach for Oklahoma City University Stars which have won 8 NAIA championships in his 12 years there. Copas has been a pitching instructor for 36 years and has helped produce 8 NAIA All-Americans, 7 High School All-Americans, 3 DI All-Americans, 1 DII All- American and sent over a 100 scholarship athletes to college just to name a few. He has sent pitchers to every conference you can think of and still gives lessons on the side.
Lindsey Voss
Lindsey pitched for Copas at OCU and was a member of the 2000, 2001 and 2002 championship teams. In 2002, she received NAIA National Tournament MVP and NAIA Pitcher of the Year. She is a three-time NAIA All-American. Lindsey was also a two- time Southern Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was selected three times on the Southern Athletic Conference All-Conference team. Lindsey also excelled in the classroom. She was twice named NAIA Verizon Academic All-American. She currently teaches and coaches at Yukon High School in Oklahoma. She also had the pleasure of playing with me in the summer.
Catching:
You will learn the fundamentals of catching. There will be framing, blocking, throwing, and plate coverage. You will not only learn about your specific skills but will get to work with a pitcher. You will learn how to work with a pitcher to make the battery better as a whole. Remember behind every good pitcher, there is a great catcher.
