Mean Green Softball Comes Up Short Against Middle

DENTON (4/6/08) The Middle Tennessee softball team scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat North Texas, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at Lovelace Stadium.

The Blue Raiders (14-18, 7-7) won the conference series against North Texas, taking two of out of the three games. North Texas falls to 20-23 overall and 8-7 in the Sun Belt.

North Texas held a 3-1 lead going into the seventh inning, but Middle Tennessee knocked in three runs off four hits to take the victory.

Lindsey Vander Lugt picked up the victory in the circle, allowing three runs in the first two innings but holding the Mean Green scoreless the rest of the way.

Sarah Jones drove in the Mean Green’s first run in the first inning with an RBI single. Katya Muller scored from third after starting the game with a base hit. Muller knocked in the team’s second run with a sacrifice fly in the second inning. Freshman Mariza Martinez followed with an RBI double to score NT’s third run.

The Mean Green left nine runners stranded on base in the game. NT left a baserunner stranded in every inning.

North Texas returns to action on Wednesday, April 9 when it faces Centenary at 2 pm in a doubleheader on the road.
