Mean Green Softball On The Road This Week

DENTON (4/9/08) - The North Texas softball team takes to the road this week for five games, starting with today's doubleheader against Centenary at 2 p.m. The Mean Green is back in conference action this weekend versus Troy.
The Mean Green (20-23) just needs two wins to tie the school record for wins in a season. Centenary is 24-17 overall and recently ended a 14-game winning streak.
North Texas had a record-setting week, breaking individual and team records. North Texas set the single-game team record for hits in a game twice last week. Katya Muller set a single-game school record with three doubles against Northwestern State and became the school's all-time hit leader.
The Mean Green is also getting noticed on the national scene. Mallory Cantler, Rebecca Waters, Mariza Martinez and Sarah Jones were all listed in several national statistical categories. Cantler is ranked 56th in batting average (.401), while Waters is listed at 77th with her .391 average. Cantler is also listed in the RBI (78th, .84 per game) and doubles categories (56th, .30 per game). Waters is ranked in the on-base percentage category (66th, .486).
Martinez is ranked 95th in sacrifice hits per game (.19), while Jones is tied for sixth nationally with four sacrifice flies.
As a team, North Texas is ranked in batting average (45th), scoring (77th), home runs per game (54th) and doubles per game (56th). With its 14 double plays this season, North Texas is once again ranked in double plays per game (54th, .33 per game).
