Robinson Joins Mean Green Softball Staff

DENTON, Texas (9/25/08) - Rone Robinson joins the North Texas softball program as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2008-09 season. He will serve as the bench coach and oversee the middle infield and catchers.
Robinson brings extensive experience as a player and a coach. He played collegiate baseball at Southwestern Louisiana, now Louisiana-Lafayette, and has continued to stay involved as a coach. His involvement with softball began with a co-head coach position with the Lafayette Thunder, a 13-and-under girls’ fast-pitch softball team.
Prior to coming to North Texas, Robinson served as a coach/mentor in the Plano Sports Organization for the last three years.
Robinson was a two-year letterwinner for the Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team as a shortstop and centerfielder from 1993-94. He was a two-sport star, also lettering with the football team from 1989-93. He served as captain during his senior season in 1993, helping lead his team to a co-conference championship. The wide receiver was named second-team all-conference in the Big West.
He continued his baseball career with the Carson Crawdads, a semi-professional team in Los Angeles, Calif. He also served as an assistant coach with the team, where he oversaw and ran infield and outfield practices and recruiting functions. Robinson was voted Newcomer of the Year and named to two All-Star games.
