Cantler Named Sun Belt Player Of The Week

DENTON, Texas (3/23/09) North Texas first baseman Mallory Cantler was named the Sun Belt Conference’s Player of the Week for the second time this season and the third time in her career.
Cantler was an integral part to the Mean Green’s 3-2 record this past week. In five games, she hit for an average of .611 and posted a slugging percentage of .833. In the three games against conference opponent FAU, the Owls were only able to retire the sophomore twice. She went 9-for-11 with three three-hit games.
The first baseman led the Mean Green to two wins against FAU, hitting .818 in the three contests. She posted three doubles and knocked in three runs. The Jarrell, Texas native drove in two runs in the 10-2 win and plated a run in the 4-3, 10-inning loss.
Cantler has started all 29 games at first base this season and leads the team with a .430 batting average, 40 hits, 20 RBI and 65 total bases. She is first in the conference in hits and total bases and is tied for first in doubles with 10. She is also third in the Sun Belt in batting average.
North Texas is off to its best start in school history with a 17-12 mark. The Mean Green is third in the Sun Belt Conference with a 5-3 league mark. NT travels to Norman, Okla. to play OU at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25.
