Mean Green Softball Falls To No. 8 Sooners

Norman, Okla. (3/25/09) D.J. Mathis struck out nine Mean Green batters to lead No. 8 Oklahoma to an 8-1 victory against the North Texas softball team at the OU Softball Complex on Wednesday night.
The Mean Green falls to 17-13, while the Sooners improve to 27-8. OU continues its unbeaten streak against North Texas with a 14-0 series advantage.
Mathis pitched 4.1 innings, struck out nine batters and allowed just one hit. She improves to 8-2. North Texas pitcher Jennifer Smith (7-6) picked up the loss, allowing four runs off four hits. Kayla Lawson pitched 5.2 innings of relief, allowing four unearned runs off five hits.
Oklahoma jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning off two two-run homers. Freshman Lisa Johnson posted NT’s only hit and run with a solo home run in the second inning.
The Sooners added a run in the third inning off a Mean Green error and then sealed the victory with three unearned runs in the fourth.
North Texas returns to action this weekend when it returns home to face conference opponent FIU in a three-game series.
