DENTON, Texas (3/27/09) - The North Texas softball team looks to return to winning ways this weekend when the Mean Green faces FIU in conference action at Lovelace Stadium. Due to poor weather conditions, the Mean Green will play one game on Saturday at 2 pm and a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 11 am.
NT is 5-3 in conference play, which puts the Mean Green third in the standings. NT is 3-16 overall in the series with FIU, but the Mean Green has won all of the three victories in the last two years. Last year, NT won one of the three games in the series. FIU came back from a 7-0 deficit in the second game to defeat the Mean Green, 11-8.
"We know FIU can come back, and that they are a good team," said senior Sarah Jones. "We just have to control the little things this weekend."
North Texas is coming off an 8-1 loss to No. 8 Oklahoma on Wednesday. The Mean Green falls to 17-13 overall, but still has the best record in school history through 30 games.
Jones is currently fourth on the team with a .329batting average. She is currently fourth all-time at North Texas with 129 hits and is third in career doubles with 27.
The NCAA released the national statistics this week, and the Mean Green is ranked in several categories. NT is ranked 32nd in home runs per game and 49th in slugging percentage. Mallory Cantler is ranked 39th in batting average, while Ashley Lail is listed in 48th for ERA.
