Softball Opens Conference Play This Weekend

DENTON, Texas (3/6/09) - The North Texas softball team opens conference play this weekend at home against ULM. The Mean Green starts off with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 7 at 2 pm.
The Mean Green is off to its best start in school history with an 11-8 mark. NT has a 10-2 lead in the series with the Warhawks.
Mallory Cantler picked up conference player of the week honors this past week after leading NT to the Quality Inn & Suites Invitational title. She is first among the Mean Green in batting average (.368), hits (21), doubles (5) and home runs (4). She hit her fourth home run in the doubleheader against Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday.
The pitching squad is keeping the Mean Green in every game; the trio is posting a combined 1.90 ERA. Ashley Lail is leading the way with a 0.80 ERA, while Jennifer Smith has a team-best five wins.
